I don’t know if Donald Trump is a racist, frankly, I don’t care. What I do focus on is what he does, and there’s a lot of things I don’t like. However, I agree with you that sometimes false things are repeated enough so that people believe them. On both sides. One of the lies told about Barack Obama was that he wasn’t born in the U.S. Told often enough that many still believe it, despite evidence to the contrary. So it is important to seek out factual information, especially on what a person does, not what he says. And then one needs to keep in mind that news can be filtered through a bias. Fox News is a branch of the Republican party, for example, and chooses to report things that reflect well on Trump. I think network news (CBS, ABC, NBC and Fox too) are mainly focused on ratings and profit, so they focus on the most outrageous things that happen in a day (explosions, political scandal, outrages), and Trump provides them with plenty of that! Your column is certainly thought provoking!
