Nearing the halfway point of February, that signals not only Valentine’s Day weekend but also the start of postseason action for girls wrestlers throughout Missouri.
Starting this Friday night at Mexico High School, eight of Brandon Howard’s Owensville Dutchgirl wrestlers will look to punch their respective tickets to the Missouri State High School Activities Association (MSHSAA) State Wrestling Championships scheduled to start on Wednesday, Feb. 25 and end on Thursday, Feb. 26 for Class 1 Girls.
Starting off the list of Dutchgirl wrestlers competing this weekend at the MSHSAA Class 1, District 2 Girls Wrestling Tournament at Mexico High School will be freshman Brianna Bodine.
Coming into districts with a 26-10 record, Bodine has tournament titles to her credit from Owensville and Fort Zumwalt South.
She was also the runner up at 100 during the Four Rivers Conference (FRC) Girls Wrestling Tournament.
An additional second-place tournament finish for Bodine came at the Lady Rebels Invitational at Central Park Hills (CPH) High School.
Bodine also placed third in tournament action at Rolla in addition to fourth-place finishes at Seckman and Buffalo.
Open at 105 pounds, Payton Busenhart will be next for the Dutchgirls at 110 pounds coming into Mexico with a 22-13 record.
To her credit, Busenhart placed second in Rolla while also posting third-place finishes at Owensville and in the FRC Tournament at 110 pounds.
Also open at 115 pounds, the next Dutchgirl to hit that mats at 120 pounds will be Anieya Bergesch carrying a 20-16 record.
Placing fourth at Owensville, Rolla and CPH, Bergesch earned All-FRC honors placing second in the conference tournament at 115 pounds.
Violet Lavalle will hit the mats for the orange and black at 125 pounds with a 20-17 record.
Lavalle placed fourth at Owensville and sixth at Rolla before capturing a FRC title at 130 pounds during the FRC Tournament held at Pacific High School in mid-January.
Taking third place at Seckman, Lavalle will look to equal if not improve on that finish this weekend to advance to state later this month inside Columbia’s Mizzou Arena.
Knocking on the door to 100 career wins, Rylee Dare will suit up for Owensville during district wrestling at 145 pounds entering the tournament with a 32-8 record.
Placing third at both Rolla and Owensville during the 2025 portion of the season, Dare also opened 2026 with a third-place finish at CPH before winning her third FRC title at 145 pounds.
Winning recent tournament titles at Fort Zumwalt South and Buffalo, Dare will look to win her fourth tournament of the season this weekend at districts.
Brooke Tainter will compete for the Dutchgirls at 155 pounds entering the tournament with an 8-16 record.
Injured recently in tournament action at Seckman, Tainter will look to extend her season past Valentine’s Day weekend.
Senior Lexis Manning will look to add state qualifier to her list of senior-year wrestling accomplishments at 170 pounds with a 20-10 record.
Manning fourth at CPH before capturing a FRC title at 190 pounds.
She will also carry a seven-match winning streak into day one of the district tournament this Friday.
Rounding out the contingency of Dutchgirl district wrestlers will be Maci Armstrong at 190 pounds.
Taking fifth at the FRC Tournament, Armstrong also placed third at Seckman and will look for a top-four finish during districts this weekend.
Schools that the Dutchgirls could be competing against this weekend include Blair Oaks, Boonville, Brookfield, California, Carrollton, Centralia, Chillicothe, Fatima, Fort Zumwalt East, Fort Zumwalt South, Fulton, Hallsville, Hannibal, Highland, Holt (Wentzville), Kirksville, Lutheran St. Charles, Macon, Marceline, Marshall, McCluer North, Mexico, Moberly, North Callaway, Orchard Farm, Palmyra, Parkway North, South Callaway, Southern Boone, St. Charles, St. Charles West, STEAM Academy at McCluer South Berkeley, Tipton, Trenton, Warrenton, Winfield and Wright City.
