Tuesday travels

Posted

With our new Monday deadlines that took effect two weeks ago, yours truly has actually had to adjust to finishing stories on Monday instead of Tuesday for nearly the past 20 years.

Now with the Gasconade County Republican and five other Warden Publishing Company newspapers printing anywhere from 8:00 a.m., until 12:00 p.m., Tuesday sporting events have become a lot easier to cover.

After spending municipal election day at the Owensville High School (OHS) Open Track Meet on Tuesday, April 7, my Tuesday travels took me into Iron County last week.

Finished by 9 a.m., last week, I was able to journey down the hills and curves of Highway 19 to Viburnum Golf Club for the second round of the Gasconade Valley Conference (GVC) Golf Tournament.

Member schools in the GVC include Belle, Viburnum, Bourbon, Cuba and Steelville.

Warden Publishing covers Belle in the Maries County Advocate while Cuba and Bourbon and covered by the Cuba Free Press. Steelville is covered by the Steelville Star/Crawford County Mirror.

Upon the conclusion of round two of the GVC Golf Tournament, my Tuesday travels took my back through Steelville on Highway 19 and on to Highway 8 entering Phelps County for Four Rivers Conference (FRC) baseball between the host St. James Tigers and visiting Owensville Dutchmen and Nelson Hart Park.

That contest was also a combo deal for Warden Publishing as they also own the St. James Press newspaper.

Yesterday’s (Tuesday) travels took me around the area delivering O.M.G. Spring Sports Magazines throughout Osage, Maries and Gasconade counties before stopping at Bearcat Memorial Stadium on the Hermann High School (HHS) campus for the running of the Hermann Middle School (HMS) Invitational Track Meet.

Over half of the Warden Publishing coverage area will be competing at Hermann including the host Bearcats, Cuba Wildcats, Bourbon Warhawks, St. James Tigers, Steelville Cardinals and Owensville Dutchmen.

Tuesday, April 28 will take yours truly up to Russellville High School and the running of the second annual Show-Me Central Conference (SMCC) track meet featuring Chamois and Vienna.

Vienna is also covered by the Advocate while Chamois is covered by the Osage County Unterrified Democrat.

While it has taken a few weeks to get acclimated to the new deadline, it has been nice to be able to enjoy some Tuesday travels instead of grinding to get pages out.
