Both drivers in a head-on crash Monday evening at 5:29 on a snow-covered Route EE sustained minor injuries.
Owensville firemen extricated Jamie L. Emo, 40, of Owensville, from the 2023 Ford Edge she was driving. Philip A. Wiegers, 33, of Gerald, reportedly crossed the centerline in the 2018 Chevrolet Silverado he was driving north, striking Emo’s vehicle head-on in a curve north of the Dry Fork Creek bridge.
Wiegers was transported to Capital Region Medical Center in Jefferson City where he was arrested by a Missouri State Highway Patrol trooper on allegations of driving while intoxicated.
Emo was wearing a seat belt and received a broken nose. She thanks her rescuers in a social media post for saving her boots as they worked in cold and snowy conditions. Wiegers’ injuries were listed as minor and he was not wearing a seat belt, according to the Missouri State Highway Patrol report by Trooper Brian R. Lange.
Route EE was closed in both directions until 6:53 p.m. when firemen cleared the scene. It was 7 degrees and snowing at the time of the crash and rescue personnel traveled on a snow-covered roadway.
Emo was transported by ambulance to Mercy Washington.
Front, side, and lower body airbags deployed. Arnold said once the driver’s door was removed and the airbags were deflated, Emo was essentially freed from the protective shell she was in.
The crash occurred eight-tenths of a mile south of Hecker Road. Triple L Towing removed both vehicles from the scene. “Total” was listed for the damage to both vehicles. Firemen remained on scene while the MSHP conducted its investigation, according to Arnold’s report.
While returning town, firemen were dispatched for a call of smoke in a residence on Highway 28 near the Dollar General. The problems was isolated to a microwave, according to the fire department report.
