This April is the 37th annual celebration of Month of Military Child, an opportunity to recognize the courage and sacrifice of approximately 1.6 million children who face the challenges of one or both parents serving in the Unites States military.
This year, the Army MWR provided the theme, “Military Youth and Children: Strength in Every Story,” which shines a light on the everyday courage of military children. Their stories are filled with resilience, adaptability and quiet strength that demonstrates the powerful character they build while growing up in a world defined by service and sacrifice.
This is the 37th year for the program that began in 1986 with the former Defense Secretary Caspar Weinberger under President Ronald Reagan, to be observed by all branches, and to bring to light and support the unique challenges that these families face, such as deployed parents, moves, new schools and leaving friends.
Many families move every two to three years.
The University of New Hampshire 4-H in 2011 developed “Purple Up Day” as a visible way to support and say “WE SEE YOU” to the military youth. This April 15, the VFW Post 6133 and Auxiliary are asking the schools and community to join us in wearing purple to say “WE SEE YOU” for our children and youth.
We will have different activities in the month of April so anyone wishing to participate can contact the chairman and leave a message at 636-667-2167.
God’s Blessings,
Tina Medlock, Chairman MOMC 2026
