Virginia Lee Moon 1943-2026

Virginia Lee Warmann Moon passed away at her home in Pea Ridge, Ark. on March 15, 2026.

She was born June 11, 1943 to Marie Magdalena Nauert Warmann and Roland Emmet Warmann at Workman Hospital in Hermann.

She was raised in a large family, one of eight children, on the family farm in Pershing, Missouri. Virginia had many fun experiences as a child and was proud of her family, German culture, and formative years on the farm.

As newly weds, her parents had moved to Pershing from the big city of St. Louis, Missouri, with little knowledge of how to run a farm. With the help of friends and neighbors they learned to live the rural life complete with raising crops and livestock, cutting firewood, canning vegetables, and more. These experiences instilled in Virginia and her siblings a love for nature and a pride of frugality that was necessary at the time, but carried through a lifetime and was lovingly passed on to subsequent generations.

As a child, she attended the two-room Pershing School from first to eighth grade, later attending high school in Hermann, Missouri and graduating in 1961. In later years, Virginia along with her spouse Charlie, would renovate and move into the same Pershing school building in which they would reside for many joyful years.

Throughout her life, Virginia remained close with her children and siblings, talking by phone and traveling far and wide across the nation, and even the globe, for many family reunions and other activities. Her nightly prayers were as far-reaching as her travels, as she included every person by name, children, grandchildren, sisters, brothers, nieces, nephews, in-laws and friends.

Virginia was united in marriage first to Norbert L. Koch in 1964, with whom she had one daughter, Susan. Her second marriage was to Charlie L. Moon in 1977, with whom she gained three sons, Randy, Marty and Terry.

She enjoyed people and was enthusiastically involved in many activities of the communities of Pershing and Hermann, and Pea Ridge, Ark.

Virginia especially enjoyed being a Girl Scout leader and working at the Hermann Chamber of Commerce guiding tourists. She was also involved at all levels in her church communities of St. Paul UCC, Hermann and Zion St. Peter UCC, Pershing (both in Missouri) and the United Methodist Church in Pea Ridge, Ark. Church picnics and regular coffee hours were especially beloved events.

Virginia was preceded in death by parents, Roland and Marie; son, Terry Moon; brother, Jim Warmann; and sister, Kerin Wilson.

She is survived by daughter, Susan Gyaben (and John); sons, Randy Moon and Marty Moon (and Susi); grandchildren,Tiphani, Tyler and Jennifer Moon and Elliott Gyaben; great-grandchild, Joseph Moon; sisters, Marilyn Struttmann (and Jim), Miriam Warmann (and Karen Yule) and Diane Maher (and Jerry); brothers, Roland Warmann (and Mary) and Jerry Warmann (and Carolyn); sister-in-law, Betty VanBooven and brother-in-law, Don Wilson.

A Celebration of  Life Service will be held at 10 a.m., April 11, at Zion St. Peter UCC Church in Pershing.
