OWENSVILLE — Gasconade County R-2 Superintendent Dr. Staci Johnson said at 1:42 p.m. on Oct. 7 that the Franklin County Sheriff’s Office gave the district the “all clear” in regard to a 12:57 p.m. message advising them to go into “secure mode.”

According to a notification sent out to parents and families of the R-2 district, “The Franklin County Sheriff’s Office notified all schools in the county of a general threat to school safety and has recommended that schools move into ‘secure’ mode for the remainder of the day.”

According to the district’s press release, students would be kept indoors for the remainder of the day and classes would continue.

“They just said they have a situation they were working out,” Johnson said when asked about the notification to families. “They gave us the all-clear a moment ago.”

Johnson said she is expecting the Franklin County Sheriff’s Office to release a statement this afternoon.

The Gasconade County Sheriff’s Office was monitoring the situation in Franklin County, but no response was required, according to Sheriff Scott Eiler. In such a case, when there is no specific threat to Gasconade County, they remain on standby and are prepared in case they are asked to assist Franklin County authorities, Eiler said.
