OWENSVILLE — The Franklin County Sheriff’s Office has charged a man with terroristic threats in the first degree for a post on social media that threatened a school shooting withing the county, according to an updated press release from the Franklin County Sheriff’s Office. Gerald Elementary School (GES) was briefly in “secure mode” due to the threat.
Christopher Stamel, a 39-year-old male from Labadie, is being held without bond on a class D felony charge, according to the press release and Missouri Case.net.
The threat led to lockdowns on the morning of Oct. 7 at all schools in Franklin County. Investigators were able to track the Facebook post, which said, “Let’s shoot people at school tomorrow” to an account of Stamel’s that used an alias. His vehicle was identified using a Flock camera in Eureka before a Sullivan Police Officer stopped the car and took Stamel into custody without incident.
A warrant filed in the 20th Circuit Judicial Court allowed Franklin County detectives access to devices found in Stamel’s possession at the time of arrest.
Stamel is scheduled for a bond hearing in Judge Matthew William Houston at 1 p.m. on Thursday, Oct. 15 and a preliminary hearing is scheduled for 2 p.m. on Oct. 29 in Franklin County courts.
Sheriff Steve Pelton says the fast-paced investigation was helped along by his department personnel, local law enforcement agencies and school officials throughout the county.
