A week removed from salvaging fifth place from the Owensville Varsity Boys Basketball Tournament, Cullen VanLeer’s Owensville Dutchmen looked to climb back to the .500 mark at 6-6 with a road win Friday night in Crawford County against Steelville’s Cardinals.
Leading 21-16 at halftime, the visiting Dutchmen outscored the host Cardinals 24-14 in the second half of their 45-30 victory moving their overall record to 6-6 on the young season.
Chase Crosby’s game-high 21 points would’ve given him a good night in Las Vegas at the blackjack table.
Brady Watson joined Crosby in double figures with 11 points and five rebounds.
Keigan Glaser put up an impressive stat line of eight points, seven rebounds, five assists and two steals.
Drew Chapman nailed a third-quarter 3-pointer for three points while Wyatt Lewis rounded out the Dutchmen scoring at Steelville with a first-quarter bucket for two points.
Jackson Woods led Steelville with 10 points.
JV Dutchmen at Steelville
In spite of a game-high 25 points from Koen Brooks, Scott Lewis’ Owensville JV Dutchmen wound up on the wrong side of a 54-46 final score against Steelville’s JV Cardinals in basketball action preceding the varsity contest.
Broden Kelley nearly joined Brooks in double figures scoring five of his eight points in the first half.
Hunter Downey scored all four of his points in the third quarter for the JV Dutchmen while Cohen Dare and Kylen Menz added three points apiece.
Charlie Katsov chipped in a third-quarter bucket for two points while Ryder Wehmeyer hit a first-quarter free throw for one point to cap the JV Dutchmen scoring at Steelville.
Cameron Wallis paced the JV Cardinals with a team-high 16 points.
VanLeer’s varsity Dutchmen will return to action later this week during the Frontenac Tournament in Kansas while Lewis’ JV Dutchmen will be idle until they compete in the Pacific JV Boys Basketball Tournament beginning Monday, Jan. 26.
