Viola Margaretta Hannah Hesemann, 97, Owensville, passed away Thursday, Sept. 24, 2020, at her home surrounded by family.
She was born Sept. 29, 1922, to Frederick and Louise (Hempelmann) Liesemeyer, near Rosebud.
She was united in marriage to Arthur B. Hesemann, July 14, 1946, at St. John Lutheran Church near Drake.
Viola was a life long member of St. John Lutheran Church in Drake. Viola and Arthur spent their married life together on the family farm where they raised cattle, hogs and chickens. Viola had a “green thumb” and enjoyed gardening, canning, taking care of her lawn and her beautiful flower beds. She was a gentle, loving soul who loved her family and was an inspiration to everyone she met.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Frederick and Louise; husband, Arthur; brother, Oscar Liesemeyer and wife Pauline; sister, Mildred Linhardt and husband Calvin; sisters-in-law and brothers-in-law, Frank and Esther Knott, Oscar and Ida Hesemann and Garland and Bertha Brown.
She is survived by her children, Richard Hesemann and wife Elaine of Owensville, Joann Gildehaus and husband Gary of New Haven and Robert Hesemann and wife Kay of Owensville; grandchildren, John Hesemann and wife Natasha of rural Mt. Sterling, Melissa Nielsen and husband David of Mt. Sterling, Lisa McCleave and husband Eric of Washington, Erin Schaefer and husband Dan of O’Fallon, Michael Gildehaus and wife Amanda of Washington and Jordan Hesemann of Washington; great-grandchildren, Abigail and Lillian McCleave of Washington, Addilyn and Colton Schaefer of O’Fallon, Boyd, Elliott and Ivan Phillips of rural Mt. Sterling; and nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be (today) Wednesday, Sept. 30, at 11 a.m. at St. John Lutheran Church in Drake with Rev. Paul Landgraf officiating. Burial will be in the church cemetery. Family requests memorials to St. John’s Cemetery Association. Please observe COVID restrictions. Masks are requested but not mandatory.
