Falling in five sets last Wednesday at Fatima, Jamie Ridenhour’s varsity Dutchgirls looked to bounce back the next night last Thursday at home in their Four Rivers Conference (FRC) opener against New Haven’s Lady Shamrocks.
Earlier in the tripleheader, Owensville won the C team match in two sets 25-10 and 25-6 while also taking the junior-varsity match in two sets by scores of 25-18 and 25-20.
Varsity action saw Owensville complete the sweep with a win in three sets over the visiting Lady Shamrocks by scores of 25-15, 25-17 and 25-19.
Lilly Sample led the Dutchgirls against New Haven with three aces and 10 kills while Leighton Chambers and Macie Ruth also added two aces apiece.
Clara Brune and Mya Vandegriffe also chipped in a service ace.
In addition to Sample in the kill department, Joleen Braun and Riley Grube each registered five kills.
Kaydence Gibson also added four kills.
In addition to her five kills, Grube posted a team-high three blocks for the Dutchgirls against New Haven.
Vandegriffe also added two blocks to go with a block each from Braun and Sample.
Brune added a team-high 16 assists while Ava Schulte added seven assists of her own.
Against Fatima, Owensville dropped the JV match in two sets 25-17 and 25-5 before a varsity match that needed the maximum five sets to decide a winner.
Owensville nearly pulled off a reverse sweep before losing the varsity match in five sets by scores of 25-20, 25-23, 23-25, 19-25 and 15-11.
Brune led the Dutchgirls against the Lady Comets with seven aces and 29 assists.
Chambers, Ruth and Sample each also served a pair of aces.
Sample also paced Owensville against Fatima with 14 kills while Grube also reached double digits with 12 kills.
Braun and Gibson nearly made it four in double digits with eight kills for the Dutchgirls.
Carly Copeland also recorded five kills for the orange and black.
Schulte also reach double digits in assists with 12 for Owensville.
Traveling to Rolla tonight (Wednesday), Owensville will host St. Clair tomorrow (Thursday) in FRC volleyball action beginning at 4:30 p.m., with the C team match.
