The young St. James High volleyball squad dropped three matches to area opponents last week.
The Lady Tigers hosted Bourbon Monday, Sept. 21 and lost 3-1 (25-23, 25-20, 24-25, 25-15). Freshman Leah Adams and sophomore Anslee Stubblefield each had four aces for STJ while Adams had five kills; sophomore Hayven Armijo and sophomore Alyssa Gill eight assists each, and Stubblefield had 18 digs while junior Seble Stutzman added 14. Bourbon won the junior varsity match 2-0 (25-15, 25-14).
St. James fell to Owensville at home 3-0 (25-14, 25-8, 25-7) Tuesday, Sept. 22. Stubblefield had six digs; Armijo an ace; sophomore Ella Marcee, junior Brynlee Costoplos, freshman Leah Adams and junior Chloee Bolte each had a kill, and Marcee and Adams each had a block. Owensville also won the JV match 2-0 (25-23, 25-13) and the C match 2-0 (25-9, 25-8).
Thursday, Sept. 24 the Lady Tigers traveled to Sullivan and lost the varsity contest 3-0 (25-8, 25-6, 25-6). Marcee had an ace and three kills; junior Aubrey Lind and Gill two assists each; junior Layla Beck and Costoplos a block each, and freshman Myrna Engelbrect six digs. Sullivan also won the junior varsity match 2-0 (25-11, 25-15) and the C match 2-0 (25-12, 25-12).
This week the Lady Tigers were to compete in the Hermann Invitational, which runs from Monday through Thursday; host Cuba Tuesday, and play at Chamois Friday (6 p.m.).
