Volleyball fever at OHS

After hosting 10 area eighth-grade volleyball teams last Saturday at Owensville High School (OHS), 34 area fourth, fifth and sixth-grade volleyball teams will compete next Friday and Saturday inside both the OHS main and small gymnasiums.

Starting Friday at 5 p.m., Owensville’s Orange team will compete in Pool A along with Viburnum, Union and Bourbon while the Owensville Black fourth-grade team will compete in Pool B alongside Cuba, Pacific and New Haven.

Pool C in the small gym will consist of Hermann, St. Clair, Sullivan and Steelville.

Owensville Orange will start their portion of pool play at 5:00 p.m., against Union before taking on Bourbon at 6:00 p.m., and Viburnum at 7:30 p.m.

In Pool B also in the OHS main gym, Owensville Black will start pool play at 5:00 p.m., against Cuba before taking on Pacific at 6:30 p.m., and New Haven at 7:00 p.m.

Coached by Dana and Ryan Hampton, fourth graders making up the Owensville Black roster include Adelaide Myeburger, Gracie Novotney, Hazel Schneider, Rylee Shockley, Ryleigh Thompson, Nora Medlock, Annie Jahnsen, Audrey Jarrett, Sophia Dobbs, Ava Rumans, Morgan Van Buskirk, Allison Meyer and Emmie Bruckerhoff.

Owensville Orange team members coached by Liv and Janet Coppedge include Kynleigh Amato, Hazel Albright, Caileigh Bastunas, Faye Geisler, Skye Aslinger, Oakley Limback, Calliope Weppner, Gradielyn Anderson, Azaleya Strubberg, Aliana Stockton, Ember Nichols and Norah Sadler.

Teams advancing to bracket will either have to be in the top two or be the first or second best third-place team.

Fifth-grade tournament action will start Saturday morning in Pool A with Owensville Orange, Steelville Black, Union and Bourbon competing on court one while Pool B will comprise of New Haven, Belle, Owensville Black and Cuba.

Making up Pool C in the OHS small gym will be Lonedell, Pacific and Sullivan.

Owensville Orange will start their portion of pool play at 8:00 a.m., against Union before facing Bourbon at 9:00 a.m., and wrapping up pool play against Steelville Black at 10:30 a.m.

Also starting pool play at 8:00 a.m., will be Owensville Black taking on New Haven before facing Belle at 9:30 a.m., and wrapping up pool action at 10:00 a.m., against Cuba.

Making up the fifth-grade Owensville Black team roster are Addison Fritzemeyer, Landry Pohlmann, Burke Heidbrink, Addysan Newbound, Zoe Hiatt, Madilyn Wiseman, Shaylia Ringeisen, Tinzlee Niewald, Kyndall Eiler, Katelyn Levin, Brooklyn Blaue and Lillian Mataitis.

They are coached by Jaimie Blaue, Bree Eiler and Liz Adams.

Coached by Megan Little and Megan Pierce, the Owensville Orange fifth-grade team roster consists of Hudsyn Sieckmann, Alexis Pierce, Jayden Lowe, Ava Alferman, Raya Myers, Brynlee Bastunas, Adalee Roehrig, Abbie Barch, Evelyn Johnson, Tyler Little, Emilia Scout Carman and Audri Saebens.

After the conclusion of the fifth-grade tournament, Sixth-grade tournament action will consist of Owensville Orange, Union, Belle and Cuba in Pool A.

Pool B will comprise of Bourbon, St. Clair, Owensville Black and Steelville.

Rounding out the tournament field in Pool C will be Union (5), Hermann and Sullivan.

Owensville Orange will start their portion of pool play at approximately 1:00 p.m., against Cuba before facing Belle at 2:00 p.m.

They will conclude pool play at 3:30 p.m., against Union.

Team members on Owensville Orange include Bella Cobb, Lylah Manson, Hunter Gibson, Kayla Hall, Ella Myers, Madison Green, Sophia Baker and Lia Lewis.

Owensville Orange is coached by Jamie and Sam Cobb along with Megan Little.

Opening pool play also at 1:00 p.m., will be Owensville Black facing Bourbon before they take on St. Clair at 2:30 p.m., and Steelville at 3:00 p.m.

Playing for Owensville’s sixth-grade black team will be Bryli Blaue, Paizli Echols, Sophia Coello, Harper Watson, Halle Hengstenberg, Raelynn Nixon, Annabelle Grube, Kayla Faddis and Amelia Mylrea.

Blaue and Adams also coach the Owensville Black sixth-grade team.

All six Owensville teams were recognized Monday  night during OMS home volleyball action against New Haven’s Lady Shamrocks.
