Voter turnout across Gasconade County was 23.08 percent in the April 2 Municipal Election as 2,459 ballots were cast among 10,655 registered voters.

The turnout was lower in Hermann Ward 2 (17.47 percent) with an uncontested race but higher in Ward 1 (27.84 percent) with a contested race. The mayor’s race there had a 22.7 percent turnout. Turnout in Bland was 11.11 percent.

Voter turnout in the Gasconade County R-2 School District’s election was 28.61 percent in Gasconade County. Turnout in the R-1 district in Hermann was 18.58 percent.

Voters on April 2 rejected the $16.5 million Gasconade County R-2 School District’s Proposition GCR2 by the narrowest margin.

While Gasconade County voters approved the proposition 947-708, it was rejected in Franklin County 234-228. Overall, 1,175 votes were cast for the bond issue and 942 rejected the request to extend the district’s bond indebtedness. The proposal did not received any votes in Osage County but there were 8 votes against the measure in Crawford County.

The proposition was approved by 55.5 percent of voters but it needed a fourth-sevenths majority (57 percent) for approval.

Gasconade County R-2 School District voters selected Kari Nolting and Keith Glaser to serve three-year terms as Board of Education directors. Both received 1,111 votes between Gasconade and Franklin County voters. James Hackstedt finished with 653 votes. Osage County did not have any votes cast for R-2 school board or Proposition GCR2 in either absentee or in-person voting. In absentee balloting in Franklin County, the GCR2 Proposition failed 11-9.

Kevin McFadden, Ward 1 alderman and president of the Owensville Board of Aldermen, was elected Tuesday as mayor for a two-year term. McFadden bested Robert Rickerd, the city’s former elected marshal who resigned a year into a new term in 2023, by a vote of 273-167 in final and official balloting. There were 4 unresolved write-in votes cast included in the tally.

Results were certified Friday afternoon since mailed in military ballots may arrive as late as Friday after the election.

Scott Griffith, the city of Owensville’s interim marshal, received 416 votes in an uncontested bid to complete the remaining two years of Rickerd’s unexpired term. Ward 2 incumbent Denise Bohl defeated challenger Jeremiah Dean by a vote of 148 to 50.

In uncontested balloting, Cathy Lahmeyer received 209 votes in Owensville’s Ward 1 to retain her seat as an alderman.

Shanon Grus was re-elected mayor of Rosebud with 88 votes in her uncontested race. Also collecting 88 votes as an uncontested candidate for city collector was Sherry Nelms. Justin Haase received 35 votes in his uncontested bid for another term at Ward 1 alderman. Kelly Kurts received 47 votes as incumbent and unchallenged Ward 2 alderman. Six write-in votes were unresolved in the Ward 2 balloting.

Rosebud voters also approved their Proposition I to increase the city’s general sales tax by one-half cent (up to 2 percent) by a margin of 61-34. Voter turnout for the question was 33.69 percent.

Spring Bluff R15 voters approved Proposition CARE by a 77.65-percent margin, 139-40.

Strain-Japan R-16 voters selected Olivia Bryan (50 votes) and Donald L. Mattingly, III, (39 votes). Justin Williamson received 32 votes.

Voters in the Gasconade County R-1 School District in Hermann approved a fund transfer, Proposition N, by a 53.75 percent margin. Votes from Gasconade, Montgomery, Warren, and Franklin County voters favored the fund transfer 523-450.

Voters in those four counties, gave almost identical approval to the district’s Proposition I, a $5 million bonding proposal for capital improvements, but it was not enough to meet the 57 percent approval ratio needed to issue bonds. The measure received 523 votes in support of the bond issuance and 451 against — a 53.6 approval rating.

The tax levy increase for the Gerald Area Ambulance District, Proposition Saving Lives, was approved on 54.96 percent of the ballots cast between Gasconade and Franklin County voters of the ambulance district (637-522).The vote was 184-149 in favor of the proposal in Gasconade County. The proposal was approved 453-373 in Franklin (54.84 to 45.16 percent).Absentee voters approved the Gerald Area Ambulance District’s Proposition Saving Lives by a 34-11 margin.

In a three-way contest for two seats the Gasconade County E-911 Board of Directors, Clyde Zelch collected 739 votes in Gasconade County and John Adams had 714 ballots in his favor. Melvin Arnold received 586 votes.

Gasconade County voters also cast ballots for school board directors in two Osage County communities.

In the R-1 Osage School District in Chamois, Gasconade countians cast 16 votes for Nick Schollmeyer, 10 for Kris Wuelling, and 9 for Sara Paulsmeyer. One unresolved write-in vote was cast. No write-in votes recipients were listed since there was not a declared write-in candidate.

In the R-2 Osage district in the Linn community, Gasconade countians cast 3 votes each for Mark J. Baker and Brad Peterson. Hannah Swann did not received any votes in the county. Three votes of approval were cast in Gasconade County for the R-2 Proposition W.

Gasconade countians in the Maries R-2 School District cast 55 votes for Kenda Sanders as a Board of Education director. There were six write-in votes counted. That ballot included write-in votes for Paul Shanks (3) and one each for Anna Wofford and Joey Bulter. There was one unresolved write-in listed on results for that race.

Sanders (311) and Shanks (104) were the winners of the two seats on the board. Shanks received his votes through write-in ballots across the three counties served by the district (Osage, Maries and Gasconade).

Debbie Green was re-elected as mayor of Gasconade city with 23 votes. There were 4 unresolved write-in votes cast. Marjorie Kuhn was selected as city collector with 26 votes. There were 2 unresolved write-in votes.

Gasconade residents also selected Curtis Duncan (26 votes) and John Steiner (24 votes) as aldermen-at-large. There were 2 unresolved write-in votes cast.

In Morrison, Rick Penrod received 19 votes for mayor. He was unopposed. Stephanie Birk received 16 votes as the unopposed candidate as Morrison’s city collector. One unresolved write-in vote was listed.

Steve Nolte and Jason Koenigsfeld each received 15 votes as candidates for an alderman-at-large position in Morrison.
