To the Editor:
We are all watching the steady decline of this country.
A few are trying to save it, many pay no attention, and several upper names in both major parties steadily lie to us while they do nothing of value to truly help.
This reminds me of a job at Steele, Mo., some 20 to 25 years ago when I was called in to evaluate and settle a dispute on a small elevated water tank. On arrival it was clear that engineering had lied to me about the situation, both they and the city had personnel on site. The city councilman was then about the same age that I am now and we talked awhile. After a little bit I could tell he was not native to the area but did know a lot about Missouri and this country. So I asked him where home was and his answer of “Transylvania,” even surprised me. I said man, that’s Dracula Country, we laughed and talked a lot more.
He lived there through, and after, WWII under Russia-Communist rule. Got out about the time the wall went up, went back to visit relatives after it came down. He had seen and experienced much, He’s looked around this country too, visiting many states, historical sites, and national parks.
I then said, “Now that you’ve been here awhile and seen a lot, what do you think of this place?”
He nearly choked up and cried as he said, “This is a great big beautiful country and they are just pissing it away.”
My feelings exactly.
He could see it then and it has only gotten worse.
