Rev. Kathleen Henrion is the young, enthusiastic and energetic pastor at Boeuff Presbyterian Church. As she enters her second year of leading the church, she already has one tradition established: a Blue Christmas service.
Scheduled for Thursday, Dec. 20, at 7 p.m., this service is designed for those who may be having a hard time finding joy in the holiday season.
“There is often a push to be happy, joyful, and merry during the holiday season,” Rev. Henrion notes. “This service invites people to be present in whatever they are feeling-—grief, loss of a job, family problems, death of a loved one.”
The service will include scripture, music, prayers, and poetry. It is open to the public.
This is the second year Rev. Henrion has offered the service. Last Christmas, Kevin Grube, a member at Boeuff, was facing the loss of both his father and his father-in-law.
“With the service, I found a way to celebrate without the joyous hoopla. It is helpful when you just aren’t feeling that inside,” Grube explains.
Rev. Henrion hopes that anyone in the community who would like to acknowledge a less than joyful holiday attitude will attend the service. The service is open to anyone. She notes her husband is Catholic which gives her a deep appreciation for all faiths.
Boeuff Presbyterian Church is located at Pine and Fourth streets in Gerald.
