William “Bill” Harold Tayloe, Sr., 92, of Owensville passed away Sunday, April 23, 2023, at The Grande at Laumeier Park in St. Louis.

He was born Nov. 4, 1930, to George and Florence (Graves) Tayloe in St. Louis.

He was united in marriage to Gloria Jean Hagerty, July 10, 1954, in St. Louis.

Bill served his country in the U.S. Air Force. He was a proud member of the Carpenters Union Local 417 of St. Louis for over seventy years, working on many large projects including the Saint Louis Arch. He was a parishioner at Immaculate Conception Catholic Church, and a member of the Owensville Lion’s Club.

Owensville has been a favorite place of Bill’s throughout his life, spending summers at the family farm as a youth, then as one of the founders of the Lake Northwoods Development where he later retired with Gloria. He was always working on projects, helping others, and loved spending time with family, especially his grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by parents, George and Florence; wife, Gloria; children, William Tayloe, Jr. and Michael Tayloe; siblings, Edward, Robert and Roger Tayloe and Rosalie Ragland.

He is survived by children, Nancy Poole and husband Allan of St. Louis, Barb Roemerman and husband Mark of Shrewsbury and Katie Loida and husband Kevin of Webster Groves; daughter-in-law, Sharon Tayloe of St. Louis; brother, George Tayloe and wife Beverly of Chesterfield; grandchildren, Nicole Hunter and husband Tim, Michelle Thrower and Andy Warren, Stephanie Tayloe and Larry Hall, Kelly Williams and husband Greg, Grace Roemerman and Joe Decker, Ryan Roemerman, Luke Roemerman, Haley Simon and husband Nick, Jack Loida and Natalie Jane Loida; and 11 great-grandchildren.

Visitation will be Thursday, April 27, from 4–8 p.m. at Gottenstroeter Funeral Home in Owensville and also Friday, April 28, from 9–10 a.m. at St. Michael The Archangel Church in Shrewsbury.

A Mass of Christian burial will be Friday, April 28, at 10 a.m. at St. Michael The Archangel Catholic Church in Shrewsbury with Fr. Don Henke officiating. Burial will be Resurrection Cemetery in St. Louis with full military honors.

Bill’s friends and family will miss his sense of humor, loving heart, bright smile with a twinkle in his eye.
