This past weekend on the football field, it was a winning one in Hermann and Owensville for the first time in nearly three years.
Hermann’s Bearcats made it a happy homecoming with a 33-12 victory over the visiting Pacific Indians while Owensville’s Dutchmen snapped a 28-game losing streak dating back to the end of the 2023 season following a 26-12 win over the visiting St. James Tigers.
Owensville’s victory over St. James Friday night was their first win since they handed Lutheran South a 48-14 loss during the first round of districts back in the fall of 2023.
This marked the first time both Hermann and Owensville won on the same week since the opening week of districts back in 2023 when the Dutchmen defeated Lutheran South’s Lancers and the Bearcats dispatched their Highway 19 rivals to the north in Montgomery County’s Wildcats.
It was also a winning weekend for Hermann’s fifth and sixth-grade football Bearcats.
Facing North Callaway’s Thunderbirds for the Mid-Missouri Youth Football League Championship Saturday at Hermann High School’s Bearcat Memorial Stadium, Hermann came away with an 8-7 victory after overcoming a 7-0 halftime deficit.
Team members celebrating with a trophy almost as tall as them included Everett Graue, Wesley Lansford, Emmerson Hasza, Elijah Pehle, Chayce Eads, Cooper Witthaus, Cole Stiegman, Truman Rucker, Grayden LaBruyere, Owen Hale, Elliot Coghlan, Preston Garner, Lux Haeffner, Ken Eldringhoff, Titus Presti, Dawson Theissen, Kash Bruno, Jaxson Trenner, Jake Kloth, Isaiah Tinker, Maxwell Kallmeyer, Chet Emmons, Kolton Koelling, Reid Emmons and Cameron Kennedy.
This week will feature some rare Thursday night football with the Gasconade County Bowl trophy on the line tomorrow (Thursday) night at Bearcat Memorial Stadium between the host Hermann Bearcats and visiting Owensville Dutchmen.
