HERMANN – The 74th version of Hermann’s Maifest — the celebration of spring — is set for Saturday with a full slate of events in the Historic Downtown.
However, this year’s Maifest Parade has been scratched. The Maifest Committee had difficulty finding a coordinator for the parade. Last year’s parade had only a few entries. With the upcoming Freedom Fest Parade on the horizon, the Maifest Committee opted not to have another small parade. Despite that, there will be plenty of activities for visitors to enjoy, from the Bubble Bus, Monkey Bus and bounce houses for youngsters to traditional German music and Bluegrass tunes for the older set.
Visitors can expect to find a variety of food and drink and items offered by vendors setting up shop along Schiller Street. What was a weekend event — that decades ago once attracted a crowd estimated at about 50,000 people — has been condensed to a one-day event in the county seat community.
Live music will be provided by the Wurst Bavarian Band and the Gasconade River Band, which will entertain with traditional Bluegrass numbers. The Gasconade River Band is being presented by the Hermann Arts Council.
