Over a span of five days and two meetings, the Gasconade County R-2 School District Board of Directors have approved several coaching resignations and hires.

During a special board budget workshop, five coaching-related moves were made.

Kris Bollman’s resignation as Dutchmen assistant baseball coach was approved 7-0.

Later in the meeting, Bollman was approved by a 7-0 vote to become an assistant track coach and will be working with his brother Zach Bollman in the same capacity.

With Misti Rutledge’s relocation to St. Clair to become the Principal at Edgar Murray Elementary School, that freed up the seventh-grade Dutchgirl volleyball coaching position.

That was filled last Wednesday when the board approved current junior varsity volleyball coach Alexis Decker to become the seventh-grade volleyball coach by a 7-0 vote.

Bollman’s assistant baseball coach post was filled in the same meeting by new football assistant coach Steven Benton also by a 7-0 vote.

With Ryan Flanagan becoming the new head boys basketball coach at Fort Zumwalt West High School next year, that created an opening for a physical education (PE) teacher at Owensville Middle School.

Utilizing the critical shortage employment program to bring back retired educators, former OMS Dutchgirl volleyball coach Gayle Hinch was approved by a 7-0 vote to take Flanagan’s position for the 2023-24 school year.

During their scheduled monthly meeting Monday night at the R-2 Administration Office, additional coaching hires were made to move closer to completing the extra duty list for the upcoming 2023-24 school year.

Current OMS sixth-grade teacher Tinya McClure was approved by a 6-0 vote to become the head coach of the seventh-grade Dutchgirl basketball team.

Coaching the seventh graders last winter, former Dutchgirl basketball player Breanna Diestelkamp was also approved by a 6-0 vote to become the eighth-grade Dutchgirl basketball coach under newly-hired varsity Dutchgirl head coach John VanLeer.

John’s son Cullen VanLeer was approved by a 6-0 vote to continue being the head coach of the Dutchmen golf team next spring.

Also approved by a 6-0 vote was the Dutchmen baseball coaching staff consisting of head coach Steven Kemp along with Benton as a varsity assistant and Brady Smith as the freshman coach.

Dutchgirl soccer head coach Kalyn Kemp and her assistant Dina Schoenfeld were both approved to continue their duties next spring by a 5-1 vote with Debbie Landolt casting the lone no vote.

Owensville High School head track coach Matt Candrl along with his assistants David Koppelmann, Dustin Howard, Zach Bollman, Megan Pondrom and Kris Bollman were all approved to their respective track coaching duties by a 6-0 vote.

Candrl’s OHS cross country team also had their request for an overnight trip to Lawrence, Kan., to compete in the Rim Rock Classic next fall by a 6-0 vote.

Along with her assistant track coaching duties, Pondrom will also be the new PE teacher at Owensville Elementary School replacing Rutledge.

R-2 Board member Russ Farrell was absent for Monday’s meeting.
