At 1:12 a.m. Saturday, Dec. 20, a call came in to Franklin County 911, according to Franklin County Sheriff Steve Pelton.
The caller reported a suicidal person was intoxicated in the 1100 block of Highway OO in Pacific.
While deputies were en route they were notified the reporting party heard a gunshot in the basement of the home.
When they arrived deputies checked on the safety of the female inside the residence. They then checked the basement of the home but did not locate anyone.
A perimeter search of the outside of the home then began. It was during this search that the officer-involved shooting occurred. A 60-year-old man was pronounced dead at the scene. There were no reported injuries to officers.
Per protocol, an independent investigation by the Missouri State Highway Patrol’s Division of Drug and Crime Control (DDCC) was initiated. A review of the circumstances surrounding the shooting, evidence collection and witness interviews are underway.
Pelton reports no further details are available at this time.
Any additional information will be released by the DDCC.
