A lot of scoreboard watching will be taking place Friday night during the final week of the high school football regular season.

Jed Leeper’s Hermann Bearcats have already clinched at least a share of their first Four Rivers Conference (FRC) football title since 2003.

A win Friday night on the road in Union against the Wildcats would give the Bearcats the outright title.

However, if the Wildcats were to defeat Hermann, a proverbial can of worms would be opened up.

Entering the final week of the regular season, Union will have nearly half the conference rooting for them.

Going into week nine, Sullivan, Pacific and St. Clair all have two FRC losses.

A Hermann loss at Union would create a four-way tie for the FRC title in football provided Pacific and St. Clair win their respective Friday road games at St. James and Owensville.

In the Class 3, District 2 standings, a mere one-hundredth of a point separates the top-seeded St. Francis Borgia Knights and the second-seed St. Clair Bulldogs.

Owensville’s Dutchmen are currently in third place just under three points ahead of Bishop DuBourg.

An Owensville win Friday night over St. Clair would allow the Dutchmen to jump the Bulldogs into the second spot and into a position to host a pair of football games during the MSHSAA Class 3, District 2 Tournament beginning a week from Friday.

However, a Dutchmen loss to the Bulldogs and a Bishop DuBourg win over Bayless could drop the Dutchmen into the fourth spot and an opening-round district showdown with Lutheran South’s Lancers come Friday, Oct. 27.
