Owensville High School and Hermann High School offer science courses through East Central College (ECC) for dual credit.

Dr. Staci Johnson, assistant superintendent of the Gasconade County R-2 School District, talked about the dual credit courses through ECC offered at Owensville High School.

“We have two courses that we teach through ECC, Advanced Biology with a Lab and Human Anatomy and Physiology, Jennifer Jones teaches them at the high school,” said Johnson. “Typically we have between 40 and 55 students who take those classes, but don’t require our kids to sit  in a dual credit class, they can just take it for high school credit.”

Alyssa Roche, counselor at Hermann High School, said “The only class that we offer through East Central is Human Anatomy and Physiology.” But, said Hermann is expected to offer Introduction to Chemistry as a new course to take through ECC for next school year.

Science teacher Valerie Uthlaut instructs 16 students in the Human Anatomy class who are taking it for dual credit through the school.

Dual credit is for juniors and seniors only, across the Gasconade County schools. If students wish to take the class for dual credit it is $75 per credit hour, last semester it was $71.

Gasconade County residents in the southeastern portion of the county in the Strain-Japan R-16 School District paid $3,748.88 in personal property and real estate taxes to East Central College in 2025, according to Gasconade County Collector Shawn Schlottach.
