Gasconade County R-1 surveys community about facilities upgrades for possible bond issue

HERMANN — Community members are being surveyed during the next week by Gasconade County R-1 School District ahead of a possible bond issue vote in April 2026.

The survey is aimed at the district’s facilities and potential upgrades.

“Each year, we update our long-range facility plan and examine potential bond issues and in doing so we want to involve our community,” district officials said in a posting to the R-1 website.

The survey will be open to the community until Tuesday, Dec. 9. The district’s Board of Education’s regularly scheduled monthly session is set for Thursday, Dec. 11.

If community members have questions about the survey or about the district’s facilities, they may contact Superintendent Geoff Neill via email at gneill@hermann.k12.mo.us.

Community members can take part in the survey by visiting the district’s website or by going to www.surveymonkey.com/r/FacilitySurvey2025.

R-1 officials have been considering a bond issue for the April 7 ballot, but have yet to decide on such a move. The district’s financial standing is such that it would qualify to seek a capital improvements bond issue of $7 million, but officials have said they don’t think that much would be needed for the projects being considered — upgrades such as heating and air-conditioning work, a new roof on Hermann High School, improvements to parking lots and other potential projects.

The board at its Dec. 11 session could discuss going to the voters for a no-tax-increase bond issue. Like other government entities considering placing an issue on the April 7 ballot, R-1 has until late January to formally adopt an order seeking a vote as part of next year’s General Municipal Elections ballot.
