Gasconade County’s top official faces challenger after first week of filing for 8 offices

HERMANN – Only one contest developed after the first week of filing for the eight offices of Gasconade County government in November’s General Elections.

Presiding Commissioner Tim Schulte will be challenged by Mark Mundwiller in the August Republican Party Primary Election for the county’s top administrative position. All candidates filing for one of the eight offices – seven other countywide officeholders will be selected in 2028 – are Republicans.

The most interesting aspect of this year’s General Elections is that four of the eight offices are open offices; the incumbents of three of those offices have chosen to retire while the fourth office is a new one, just created late last year when the County Commission decided to split the Circuit Clerk & Recorder of Deeds Office.

Observers were anticipating possibly several challenges for those open offices – County Clerk, Recorder of Deeds, Treasurer and Collector. Challenges could still develop; filing for county offices doesn’t end until Tuesday, March 31.

Aside from the presiding commissioner hopefuls, the other candidates are:

Circuit Court Division 4: Incumbent Ada Brehe-Krueger; County Clerk: Danielle Norsic, currently the chief deputy; County Collector: Glenda Shockley, the longtime deputy collector is seeking to succeed the retiring Shawn Schlottach; County Treasurer: Newcomer Natasha Hesemann is seeking to succeed retiring Treasurer Mike Feagan, who is wrapping up his third term in the office; Circuit Clerk: Incumbent Jennifer Schneider is seeking her second term; Recorder of Deeds: Jessica Diebal, who has served several years as the deputy circuit clerk is seeking to become Gasconade County’s first-ever recorder of deeds; Prosecuting Attorney: Incumbent Mary E. Weston, after earlier considering bowing out of public service, decided to seek another term.
