Getting the boot

Posted

Throughout the month of August, yours truly will be slowly getting around area football fields, softball and fall baseball fields, volleyball courts, soccer fields and cross-country courses.

After hiking up and down the fairgrounds at Memorial Park during the 76th Gasconade County Fair, I felt a lot of pain right at my left ankle towards the final day of the fair that Saturday.

Consulting my primary care physician Dr. Andrea Schuster here in Owensville last Tuesday, she diagnosed me with paroneal tendonitis. Not having a walking boot that was not in my size, I was able to finish my pages for last week’s Gasconade County Republican in time to seek out other options.

Heading to Potential Therapy here in Owensville to see if owner Anita Altemeyer could help, she suggested I head to Washington and Mercy GoHealth Urgent Care.

Booking an Online appointment, I was seen quickly upon arrival and x-rays confirmed swelling.

Having a walking boot my size, my next mission was to find a knee scooter so that I would be able to stay off my feet while covering area high school sporting events.

Thanks to the generosity of my co-worker Sharon Brown, I was able to borrow one for as long as it takes for my injury to heal.

Therefore, do not mind the guy scooting down the track for the first couple of football Friday nights during either Owensville High School’s upcoming jamboree on Friday, Aug. 18 or during their season opener along Highway 19 on Friday, Aug. 25 against Cuba’s Wildcats on the road.
