HERMANN – Employees of Hermann city government will receive a 3-percent pay increase in the new fiscal year that begins July 1 under a budget that received final approval Monday night.

Second-round approval of the city’s operating budget was granted by the Board of Aldermen during its second regular session of the month.

Included in the budget package is a new pay schedule for all employees. The salaries are presented as a range of pay, rather than a specific amount and covers workers from those in City Hall to those who work throughout the community.

Administration: The mayor and four members of the Board of Aldermen (BOA) receive a nominal salary for their service. The mayor receives $400 per month while the aldermen each receive $200 a month. The top-paid member official in City Hall is the city administrator, who is paid between $86,000 and $107,000 a year. The city clerk’s pay ranges from $50,000 to $62,000. That same pay range is provided to the city’s finance clerk.

The accounting clerk and the administrative assistant each are paid between $17 and $23 per hour. The city treasurer is paid $300 to $500 a month. The purchasing agent has a pay of $17-$23 an hour. The human resources officer, who also provides administrative support, receives $18-$24 an hour. The deputy city clerk also earns $18-$25 an hour. The ordinance enforcement officer (also referred as the code enforcement officer) is paid $19-$25 an hour. The City Hall custodian is paid $16-$23 an hour.

Cemetery: The position of temporary skilled worker in the Cemetery Department is paid $15-$19 per hour.

Public Works: The director of the Public Works Department is paid $16,000 to $20,000 a year. This person also fills the role of foreman of the Electric Division and for this job is paid $36-$49 an hour. A temporary skilled worker in the Public Works Department is paid $15-$20 an hour.

Electric Division: The lead lineman of this agency is paid $27-$43 an hour while a lineman is paid $25-$40 per hour. A lineman apprentice earns $22-$34 an hour and a ground man, who also serves as the division’s heavy equipment operator, is paid $22-$30 an hour.

Street Division: The division foreman is paid $25-$30 per hour while the division’s heavy equipment operator earns $19-$27 hourly. The light equipment operator is paid $18-$26 an hour while a maintenance worker 1 is paid $17-$24 and a maintenance worker 2 is paid $18-$25 an hour. The division’s mechanic is paid $20-$28 an hour and the agency’s semi-skilled worker is paid $15-$20 an hour.

Tourism Department: The director of the agency, who also serves as the city’s economic development director, is paid between $50,000 and $70,000 a year. A part-time tourism services assistant is paid $15-$18 an hour and a marketing specialist is paid $20-$25 an hour.

Park/Recycling Department: The park director has a pay of $22-$26 an hour. Park maintenance worker 1 is paid between $15-$21 and park maintenance worker 2 is paid $16-$22 an hour. The department’s light equipment operator is paid $17-$23. At the city swimming pool, the manager is paid $18-$24 an hour while the assistant manager is paid $16-20. A lifeguard is paid $15-$17. An umpire is paid $20-$45 a game, depending on whether the umpire is a base umpire or a home plate umpire. The ballfield groundskeeper is paid $20-$45 per field. The department’s temporary summer help is paid $15-18 per hour and the concession stand manager is paid $15-$19 per hour.

Police/Dispatch Department: The chief of police earns between $68,000-$87,000 a year while the lieutenant is paid $$30-$38 an hour. A sergeant earns $29-$33; a corporal is paid $28-$32 and a patrolman is paid $26-$31. A reserve officer is paid 23-$26 and a special officer is paid $24-$27. The communications supervisor is paid $23-29 an hour; a dispatcher earns $17-$23 and the police/court clerk is paid $18-$29 an hour.

Gas/Water/Sewer Division: The division foreman is paid $27-$33 an hour while a gas service technician is paid $28-$28. A wastewater operator is paid $20-$28 and water operator is paid $20-$28 an hour. A heavy equipment operator is paid $21-$29 and a gas administrative assistant is paid $18-$25 an hour.

For some employees, compensation includes an allotment for special personal equipment, such as steel-toed boots for some workers and special boots for electric division linemen.
