HERMANN — Wanting to get an early start on consideration of possible street upgrades in the next fiscal year, City Hall is planning a street workshop for the Board of Aldermen next month.
The city routinely includes in its operating budgets a schedule of specific streets to be improved. That work is part of the annual budget work that takes place in the Spring. Hermann’s operating budgets typically are crafted in April and May and approved by the Board of Aldermen in June. The city’s fiscal year runs from July 1 to June 30.
City Administrator Patricia Heaney announced the upcoming street workshop Monday night during the board’s first regular session of January.
Not meeting since the second Monday of December, the city board had little substantive matters to deal with at Monday night’s session. Indeed, it took the board only about 20 minutes to dispatch the items on the panel’s agenda.
Housekeeping matters included legislation that would extend an agreement regarding electricity service between the city and Damhorst Toys and Puzzles, Inc., to a site owned by the company in the Hermann Industrial Park. That measure was given first-round approval.
Likewise, approval was granted to a proposed ordinance authorizing an agreement to provide an easement to a San Diego company on ground over a natural gas pipeline in Audrain County. Hermann holds the easement rights for the gas pipeline. Tom Sawyer Solar, LLC, of San Diego proposes to develop, operate and maintain a solar project on the property.
In other matters, the board confirmed the appointment of Kelsie Mariano as city clerk. Mariano for the past six months has been working as the acting city clerk, pending the completion of a probationary period. She succeeded Corey Orr as city clerk. Orr resigned the position to take a teaching position in the Montgomery County School District.
The aldermen also ratified the hiring of Amie Buesking as the city’s purchasing agent and the hiring of Connie Kloppe as the administrative assistant and accounting clerk in City Hall.
The board also approved the renewal of the city’s insurance coverage from the Missouri Intergovernmental Risk Management Association (MIRMA), declared a vehicle in the police department to be surplus property that will be sold through auction and approved a liquor license for a new business, Bunker & Barrels, which will be located in the building at Market and 4th streets that formerly housed the Piano Bar.
A public transit license was renewed for Hermann Trolley, which also was granted a renewal of its vehicle for hire license.
A Special Event Application was approved ford Hermann Area District Hospital, which plans to hold its Red Heart Walk on Feb. 5 on various streets and sidewalks. And, an amended Special Event Application was approved for Touch of Hope Foundation allowing for vendors, music and food sales at the Amphitheater on June 27.
