Owensville’s Public Works department had “one of those days” this past Wednesday as their director, Jeff Kuhne might say. An aging cast iron water line began leaking as city workers were digging around the line, which teed-off to an old fire hydrant they were planning to replace and relocate on North Second at McFadden. The leaking line which resulted caused water to be shut off to several downtown businesses and area residences throughout much of the afternoon. The new 6-inch PVC line, which replaced the 4-inch cast iron line, will extend south toward the police station. Work at the intersection was completed during a 12-hour workday in extremely warm, upper-90s weather. Clean up and completion of work in the intersection was completed on Tuesday. That section of North Second will be milled and an asphalt overlay installed yet this summer as part of the city’s 2021 contracted paving work. Water being collected in a bucket was being used for the concrete saw they were using to saw cut pavement to reach the old hydrant on the west side of the street.
