Over a week removed from Selection Sunday of the annual 68-team NCAA Division I Men’s Basketball Tournament, a former Owensville Dutchgirl basketball player and one team with area ties was still playing in March as of press time.

Looking to lead her Drury University (DU) Lady Panther basketball to a fourth straight Great Lakes Valley Conference (GLVC) women’s basketball tournament title, former Dutchgirl and DU senior Hailey Diestelkamp’s Lady Panthers entered the tournament coming off a 29-0 undefeated regular season.

Dispatching Maryville University and Lindenwood University respectively, Diestelkamp and the Lady Panthers took on Lewis University Sunday afternoon with their fourth straight GLVC Tournament title on the line.

Behind 25 points, 10 rebounds, seven steals and six assists from HD, DU earned the right to host this weekend’s NCAA Division II Midwest Regional Tournament in Springfield.

Sullivan’s Lady Eagles represent the area as the last team standing as they hosted Helias’ Lady Crusaders last night (Tuesday) at the University of Missouri - Science and Technology (S&T) in Rolla in Class 4 sectional action.
