New Haven Community Youth Fair canceled due to COVID-19 concerns

At their May 7 meeting, the New Haven Community Youth Fair Board voted 11- 5 to cancel the 2020 event.

The board had been monitoring the social distancing guidelines and government regulations over the past month.

County Commissioner Tim Brinker and other local fair boards were consulted with to help make the decision.

Deliberation took place for over an hour Thursday evening before the board reached the final vote. Many things regarding the social distancing guidelines and how the fair would implement them and abide by these guidelines were discussed, according to a release from the fair board.

“Ultimately the safety of our fair guests was the number one concern,” said Brandon Panhorst, fair president.

With many details and events of the fair taking more than a month to plan and organize and all the uncertainties, the fair board decided to cancel the 2020 fair. Refunds of donations from sponsors will be made.

Parents of children who planned on showing their livestock or home exhibits are encouraged to take a video or share a photo of their child with their entry and tag the New Haven Community Youth Fair Board on Facebook to show off their prize-winning entries to the community.
