Finishing in the top 15.

That was the goal for Matt Candrl’s Owensville High School Cross Country runners during Saturday’s Missouri State High School Activities Association (MSHSAA) Class 3, District 4 Cross Country Meet held in Osage County at the Linn Athletic Complex.

Sandwiched in the middle of six races that day, the Class 3 varsity girls hit the course after both the Class 2 boys and girls completed their respective races.

Fresh off a Four Rivers Conference (FRC) individual title nine days earlier, Dutchgirl senior Mekayla Gibson looked to add a district title to her list of accomplishments on Halloween.

One of just two runners to break the 20-minute mark, Gibson crossed the finish line with a first-place time of 19:53.8 seconds ahead of Southern Boone freshman Alexandra Volkart’s second-place time of 19:58.3.

Placing 11th and just missing a medal at the FRC meet in New Haven, Dutchgirl senior Katie Candrl looked to keep her final season of cross country going.

Unfortunately for her, she’ll have to wait until track season after just missing the top 15 with a 16th-place time of 22:57.8.

Posting top-30 finishes for Owensville were junior Kyah Weirich with a 22nd-place time of 23:39.4 along with Kate Angell placing 28th in 24:24.0.

Rounding out the district Dutchgirl contingency were Katelyn Holtzer (40th, 26:18.0), Kiera Finn (41st, 26:19.5) and Julianna Watkins (45th, 27:45.2).

Next up on the course at Linn were the Class 3 boys.

Placing sixth at the FRC meet in New Haven, Dutchmen senior Cameron O’Neal looked to earn himself another race next week in Columbia.

Placing 13th in 19:30.1, O’Neal will not be only Dutchmen navigating the Gans Creek Cross Country course next week in Columbia.

Missing out on All-FRC honors over a week ago, junior Harm Rademacher earned All-District honors and a spot at the state meet tomorrow (Thursday) with a 15th-place time of 19:36.1.

Also running Saturday for the Dutchmen were Freddy Zheng (22nd, 20:13.7), Tristan Davis (26th, 20:44.6), Ethan Harris (27th, 20:44.6), Trevor Shockley (33rd, 21:20.1) and Braedn Stone (35th, 21:39.4).
