Fast times in Joplin.
That was the case Saturday for Matt Candrl’s Owensville High School cross country runners during the Missouri Southern Stampede at Missouri Southern State University in Joplin.
Racing in the gold division, Candrl’s Owensville Dutchmen had a pair of medalists in varsity boys action.
Senior Felix Guerrero broke the 17-minute mark with a time of 16:50.04 good for a 14th-place medal.
Freshman Zach Holtmeyer also earned a medal for his 23rd-place time of 17:15.14.
According to Candrl, Holtmeyer’s time is the fastest by an Owensville High School freshman boy on any cross country course.
Also helping the Dutchmen place 12th out of 29 teams were Kyle Bollmann (92nd, 18:42.23), Ethan Harris (99th, 18:51.99), Andrew Blankenship (136th, 19:45.52) and Eli Graham (222nd, 24:43.05).
Junior Ilene Limberg led the varsity Dutchgirls with a fourth-place time of 19:26.39.
Sophomore Hannah Gehlert also earned a medal with her 25th-place finish in 20:55.61.
Also helping the Dutchgirls place eighth out of 22 teams were Abbie Gibson (37th, 21:31.48), Elaina Lebish (126th, 24:53.19) and Morgen Schmidt (176th, 27:50.44).
JV Dutchgirl freshman Jayden Hubbard placed 128th in 18:31.77.
Cristopher Reyes led the JV Dutchmen with a 58th-place time of 12:37.47 in their 3K race.
Others helping OHS place 13th out of 23 teams were Westin Kramme (80th), Ty Price (81st), Braden Perkins (124th) and Kylen Menz (132nd).
