Owensville Board of Adjustments to hear three appeals Feb. 16

Owensville’s Board of Aldermen was informed Monday the city’s appointed Board of Adjustments is scheduled to convene in an advertised public hearing at 6:30 p.m. Thursday, Feb. 16. The hearing was advertised Jan. 25 and residents within 185 feet of the variance site will receive letters from the city about the hearing.

Three written applications for variances prompted the call for the hearing which will include an on-record transcription of the proceedings. Cody James seeks a variance for set-back restrictions for planned expansion of his workshop at 208 North Cuba. Jim Moritz wants to install apartments at the rear of his building at 501 Highway 28 but they are not allowed under current zoning for the site. And, Carl Smith, a member of the adjustments panel, wants to build a larger garage at 311 W. Franklin on an existing pad which is within 4 feet of the property line.

He will be replaced on the adjustment board by Robert Huesgen, Jr., who will serve as an alternate. Other members of the panel include Roxane Brueseke, John Hoffmann, Kenton Bohl, and Wayne Kemper. Four affirmative votes from the five-member panel are needed to carry a motion to approve a variance request. Their approval is final. If a request is rejected, the applicant’s only recourse is a petition to the circuit court system. The hearing is open to the public.
