Personal property, real estate forms to be mailed out this mail by county Assessor’s Office

Posted

This week the Gasconade County Assessor’s office will be mailing out the 2024 personal property declaration forms to property owners.

Taxpayers are reminded to complete and return this form before the March 1 deadline.

Accoerding to Gasconade County Assessor Paul Schulte, it is important that the taxpayers get these forms completed and returned. Missouri State Statute 137.280 calls for penalties to taxpayers for the failure to return this form. The penalties for not returning this completed form is based upon the total assessed value. These penalties are printed at the bottom on the back side of the form.

If you were assessed last year, the Assessor’s Office has printed on this year’s form what they had you assessed for prevously. Using this information, just check what you still have in the box to the left and draw a line through what you no longer own as of Jan. 1, 2024.

Any new items need to be entered on the form in the correct category.

The sooner the form is completed, the better chance it will be filled out correctly. You should contact the Assessor’s Office to request a form if you do not receive one by Jan. 17. It is your responsibility to notify the Assessor’s office of a change in address.

Another option available to the public is that you can complete the filling of your personal property online. You can go to the Assessor’s website, www.gasconadecountyassessor.com.

You will find your personal identification number (PIN) in the upper right corner of your assessment form.

Items that are frequently missed by the tax payers are side by sides, and trailers — such as livestock, utility, and boat trailers. Per Missouri Statute 301.010 ATV’s and side-by-side’s need to be listed on the personal property declaration form.

They need to be listed because the owners will need paid receipts when they renew their plates or apply for a permit to operate a side-by-side on public roads. These missed items when added late will be charged penalties.

Taxpayers who are new residents of Gasconade County since Jan. 1, 2023, need to contact the Assessor’s office for their personal property form.  Also, individuals who are first time property owners such as young adults who acquired a vehicle for the first time during  2023, need to file this declaration form.

For businesses, a different form is being used.  The annual cost of equipment purchased each year is what is to be reported. The cost must be reported, as well as the year purchased and the class life. And, Schulte eplained, it will be claimed on personal property exactly as it is claimed for income tax purposes.

The form will need to be signed but it does not need to be notarized.

All inquiries should be directed to the Gasconade County Assessor’s office, 119 E.  1st Street, Room 23, Hermann, Mo., 65041, or by calling 573-486-3100 between the hours of 8 a.m. and 4:30 p.m.Monday through Friday.
