R-2 District sells Admin Field site for $404,719

Gasconade R-2 Superintendent Dr. Chuck Garner told the board of education Casey’s General Store completed the sale Dec. 13 of the Administration Field property.

“It’s been about 16 months in the process to do that, but we closed on Thursday, signed the paper work, and the official sale price was $404,719,” Garner said.

Garner said the property sale brings the district’s surplus property  and buildings to zero.

“It started with the 3-5 building, the old high school, back in 2007-08; then the Rosebud school in 2011; and the K-2 building in 2013 and the K-2 building lots beside that this year and the administration field now — that’s all the surplus property the district had declared at some point. There isn’t any other surplus property,” Garner said.

He added that it has taken about 10 years to unload all the property. The district is now in the market to replace the baseball/softball field that they will be losing with the sale of the Administration Field.

Board President Glenn Ely said taking care of the excess property has given them a new opportunity.

“Seldom has opportunity existed where we have leveraged properties and aligned them with potential of a project that is good for the district,” Ely said, referring to utilizing funds from the property sale to add a sports complex to the R-2 campus on Highway 19 north of Owensville.

The deal was delayed slightly when a “scrivener’s error” was detected on some “legal description” documents which had been signed off on by the city of Owensville. The city’s Board of Aldermen was notified of the error at their Nov. 19 meeting and informed city officials would need to sign the corrected documents once they were completed.

Aldermen on Nov. 5 had approved an agreement between the city, the Gasconade County R-2 School District, and Casey’s Marketing Company to extend a sewer line easement from the district’s remaining property which contains the Administrative Building to the site Casey’s plans to develop into a new gasoline station and store.

The agreement was authorized through approval of Resolution 2018-2 on a unanimous vote.
