To the Editor,
I was astounded as to how weak the Gasconade County Democrats response was to the government shut down in their letter to the editor last week.
First of all what does the building of the ballroom have to do with the shutdown? The ballroom project was announced in July 2025.
It is being built because there is a need. The Washington Post editorial board (not known for their support of President Donald Trump) wrote, “In classic Trump fashion, the president is pursuing a reasonable idea in the most jarring manner possible. Privately, many alumni of the Biden and Obama White Houses acknowledge the long-overdue need for an event space like what Trump is creating. It is absurd that tents need to be erected on the South Lawn for state dinners, and VIPs are forced to use porta-potties.”
This construction is not being done to entertain billionaires as you surmise, it is for state dinners to entertain foreign dignitaries.
Also, this is not the first time that a major change has been made to the White House.
Second, it’s interesting that you failed to mentioned that the ballroom is being totally paid for by Trump and other donations.
No tax payer’s dollars are being used! Maybe the Democrat Club believes that most people don’t realize this, as the fake news channels probably don’t mention this. You very blatantly state and I quote, “Missourians deserve better than being told to tightened their belts while billionaires dance in ballrooms built on our tax dollars.”
Third, it just seems that you are so desperate to run down Trump, and join in the political persecution, that you will resort to lying which I find very disappointing in my democratic friends.
