Rosebud Sibling argument results in alleged shooting

A Rosebud man and his mother were charged Tuesday afternoon for alleged actions that occurred on Oct. 20 in connection with a shooting on Idel Road.

Carson J. Adams was charged with domestic assault in the first degree (serious physical injury) and armed criminal action. His bond was sent at $50,000, cash-only. Cynthia A. Adams, of Rosebud, was charged with resisting or interfering with an arrest, detention or stop and interfering with a first responder — first offense. Bond has been set at $1,000 cash or surety.

According to the report, emergency services were dispatched to the 3000 block of Idel Road in Rosebud around noon on Monday after an argument between brothers reportedly ended in one allegedly shooting the other with an AR-15 rifle, according to Gasconade County Sheriff Scott Eiler. The shooter fled into a nearby wooded area, and made threats to shoot law enforcement officers if they arrived on scene. Schools in the vicinity were locked down.

“Upon arrival, deputies located the victim, who had sustained a single gunshot wound to the right leg,” according to the report.

Deputies transported the victim in the bed of a patrol vehicle to a waiting ambulance, where he was later air-lifted to Mercy Hospital St. Louis for further medical treatment.

“As of today, I believe he is still at the hospital being treated,” Eiler said. “He’s gonna live.”

As emergency personnel arrived on scene, they simultaneously saw Carson Adams exiting the woods and ultimately surrender to deputies. During the incident, Cynthia Adams was also arrested for interfering with and resisting law enforcement efforts.

“Both the suspect and his mother were transported to the Franklin County Adult Detention Facility (on Oct. 20) pending formal charges,” according to the report.

“We did lock down Gerald Elementary School and the Rosebud Immanuel Lutheran School because, at the time, the shooter was in the woods,” Eiler said. “We didn’t know where his location was at the time, so we locked down the two closest schools as a precautionary measure.”

The districts notified parents that the schools were in lockdown due to a shooter at large.

“They weren’t locked down for long, no more than 30 minutes,” Eiler said.

Eiler said the scene was cleared before 1:50 p.m. when he posted an update about the incident to Facebook.

Charges were filed Tuesday around noon.

“We have 24 hours to do our investigation to make sure we have everything we need,” Eiler said. “I do the report and submit it to the prosecutor who shares it with the judge. It takes time.”

As expected on Monday, charges were filed Tuesday.

Emergency services who responded to the scene included Eiler, the Bland Police Department, the Missouri State Highway Patrol, the Gerald-Rosebud Fire Protection District and Gerald EMS.
