Route Z crash injures Washington woman

A 33-year-old Washington woman sustained moderate injuries when the 2004 Chevrolet 1500 pickup truck went off Route Z Monday afternoon and struck a tree.

According to the Missouri State Highway Patrol report, the woman was traveling west on Route Z east of Highway 19 when the truck went off the right side of the road. She over-corrected and returned to the roadway, then went off the left side of Z. She continued down a ditch before hitting the tree at 12:35 p.m. Nov. 24. She was wearing a seat belt and was transported by ambulance to Mercy Washington for treatment. The truck, which received total damage, was removed by Harvey’s Towing.

Two juvenile pedestrians, a boy 14 and a boy 15, were struck Monday afternoon in Osage County as they attempted to crossed Route C 150 feet south of U.S. 50. According to the MSHP report, the boys were struck at 4:03 p.m. Nov. 24 by a southbound 2008 Ford Edge. The driver of the car, an 18-year-old female from New Haven, was wearing a seat belt and was not injured. The car had minor damage.

The two boys were transported by Osage ambulance to the University of Missouri Hospital in Columbia for treatment of moderate injuries. The 14-year-old was from Linn and the 15-year-old was from Chamois. The MSHP report noted the boys crossed into the path of the car.

An Edgar Springs woman, 22, received minor injuries when the 2011 Honda Accord she was driving west on U.S. 50 a tenth of a mile east of Route CC began to hydroplane at 5:!5 a.m. Nov. 20. She crossed the centerline and traveled off the south side of the road and struck a ditch. She was treated at the scene by Osage ambulance personnel. The car was secured at the scene with minor damage.

The MSHP reports the arrest at 10:39 p.m. Nov. 23 of a Freeburg man. Albert H. Hoffman, 73, faces a driving while intoxicated on alcohol charge following his arrest in Osage County. He was transported to the Osage County jail in Linn and released.

The Missouri State Highway Patrol reports the arrest at 7:54 a.m. Nov. 21 in Crawford County of a Cuba man, identified as John C. Horton, 43. Horton faces charges on allegations of felony possession of a controlled substance (methamphetamine), possession of drug paraphernalia and for not wearing a seat belt. He was arrested and released.

Arrested by the MSHP on allegations of felony possession of a controlled substance at 2:31 p.m. Nov. 18 in Crawford County was Jake H. Ward, 30, of Sullivan. He also faces a charge of possession of drug paraphernalia. He was arrested and released.

John David Steed of Hermann was charged Nov. 19 with the class B misdemeanor driving while intoxicated (DWI) and the class D misdemeanor of operating a vehicle on a highway without a valid license.

According to the report filed by Missouri State Highway Patrol’s Troop F of Jefferson City, Steed was contacted during a traffic stop Sept. 19 while driving a gray Nissan Murano and allegedly showed signs of intoxication including nervousness, watery and bloodshot eyes, slurred speech and reportedly failed a field sobriety test.

Steed entered a plea of not guilty at his initial appearance Nov. 19 and his case has been scheduled to be heard Jan. 14 at 9 a.m. in the Gasconade County Division IV courtroom with Judge Ada Brehe-Krueger presiding.
