Senior Center offers curbside meal service

Posted

Owensville Senior Center will continue providing daily hot meals through curbside deliver as Aging Best continues its mission to provide nutritional services 31 sites across 19 counties it serves.

Although Aging Best, formerly known as Central Missouri Area Agency in Aging, has halted in-house congregate meal service and activities due to the threat of the new novel coronavirus, Sharon Nowack and her staff in Owensville were busy preparing pork chops and broccoli on Thursday. Meals were being delivered curbside to those who called in an order.

The halt to gathers at the center will last until at least March 31 and could be extended.

While there are typically “suggested donations” collected for daily meals taken in the centers, the new message is don’t worry.

“We want people to know we’re here for them,” said Beth Busseau, government services director for Aging Best. “We want to feed them.”

Expanded home delivery of meals is also being promoted to serve area homebound seniors.
