Since August, on the first Friday of each month Gerald’s Community Outreach has conducted a food drive through for anyone in the community. Last Friday, the driver was nearly two hours late in arriving with the food provided by the Food Access Resource Markets (FARMS) through the St. Louis Area Foodbank. The 18 volunteers on hand immediately began unloading the pallets full of food. They then bag items into family-sized portions. Once that is done, patrons are asked to drive up to the distribution point and remain in their vehicle while the volunteers load the food. Last Friday, in the bitter cold, these volunteers worked over four hours helping nearly 100 families in the area with extra food. Michelle Glosser, director of the outreach program was instrumental in bringing this help to the community. The food is available to anyone. You may pick up food for your neighbor who works or for a shut-in who is not able to get there. The only questions asked are how many are in the family and how many of those are under 18 years of age.
