Throughout the remainder of this week, die hard basketball fans throughout Gasconade County will have seven tournaments to choose from in order to get their basketball fix.

John VanLeer’s Owensville Dutchgirls overcame a slow start Monday night before turning back Nerinx Hall 61-46 in the opening round of the Marquette Girls Basketball Tournament in Chesterfield.

OHS advances to tonight’s (Wednesday) championship semifinals against Fort Zumwalt West at 8:30 p.m.

Spending the week along Highway 19, Hermann’s Bearcats and Lady Bearcats will be competing in their respective Montgomery County Basketball Tournaments.

Andy Emmons’ Lady Bearcats sent Mexico’s Lady Bulldogs to the consolation side of the bracket with a 51-29 win Monday night at Montgomery County Middle School.

They will advance to tonight’s championship semifinals at Montgomery County High School against Wellsville-Middletown’s Lady Tigers at 7:30 p.m.

Jake Witthaus’ Hermann Bearcats opened tournament action at Montgomery County last night (Tuesday) in first-round action against Clopton’s Hawks.

Hermann High School is also hosting their annual Hermann JV Girls Basketball Tournament which kicked off last night (Tuesday) with the host Lady Bearcats facing Fulton’s JV Lady Hornets.

East on Highway 100 at New Haven, Hermann’s JV Bearcats posted a 56-51 first-round victory over St. James Monday night and will advance to tonight’s (Wednesday) semifinals against Washington’s Blue Jays at 6:45 p.m.

On the bottom half of the bracket at New Haven, Owensville’s JV Dutchmen turned back Sullivan’s Eagles 45-34 and will await the winner of tonight’s first-round game between St. Clair and Union in semifinal action tomorrow (Thursday) at 6 p.m., in Shamrock land.

Shifting gears to middle school boys basketball, Owensville’s seventh-grade Dutchmen fell to the host Tigers 47-24 Monday night during first-round action at the St. James 7th Grade Boys Basketball Tournament. They took on Union’s Wildcats last night (Tuesday) in consolation semifinal action.

Over in Union, Hermann’s eighth-grade Bearcats suffered a 52-11 setback to Pacific Monday night. They will await the loser of last night’s (Tuesday) first-round game between Sullivan and St. James in tonight’s (Wednesday) consolation semifinals at 5:30 p.m., at Union Middle School.

No matter where your travels take you this week, there should be some good basketball to watch whether your a fan of the orange and black or the blue and white.
