A 45-year-old Owensville man sustained serious injuries as a passenger in a one-vehicle crash Friday afternoon in Crawford County.
According to the Missouri State Highway Patrol’s Troop I report, the Owensville man was a passenger in a 2012 Chevrolet Camaro being driven by a 31-year-old Sullivan woman. The vehicle went off the right side of the road, went airborne, and overturned. Neither of the occupants were wearing a seat belt at the time of the crash reported at 1:50 p.m. Dec. 19 in the 1700 block of Route C at they traveled west.
The man was flown by ARCH air ambulance for treatment at Mercy South in St. Louis. The woman was transported by North Crawford County ambulance for treatment of minor injuries to Missouri Baptist in Sullivan.
Parental kidnapping charges filed
Troop I also reports the arrest at 6:38 p.m. Dec. 17 of a Sullivan man, Lawrence A. West, Sr., 76, on allegations of parental kidnapping. He was transported to the Crawford County Jail in Steelville and placed on a 24-hour hold.
Bond for West was set at $5,000 cash or surety and he has an initial court appearance scheduled for 9 a.m. Friday, Jan. 23, in Crawford County.
The MSHP went to a residence West and his wife were renting in Leasburg just before 5 p.m. Dec. 17 after a Rolla woman had reported her two children were missing since Dec. 13. The MSHP report noted the investigator responding to the residence could see both adults and two children inside the residence. Crawford County deputies also responded to the scene and after an hour waiting for someone to answer the door, the grandmother and grandchildren exited the residence and West finally did as well.
He reportedly told the MSHP the children’s mother was not good for them. The children had been reported missing Dec. 13 and were at the residence they were located at since Dec 14, according to the probable cause statement filed as the application for an arrest warrant.
West was charged Dec. 17 with two class E felony counts alleging parental kidnapping.
