Gasconade County Voters will have only one choice to make  for county offices in Primary Elections

HERMANN – The August Primary Elections appear to be no cause for excitement for voters as far as Gasconade County government offices are concerned.

Of the eight offices to be formally decided in the November vote, only one offers voters a choice of candidates.

Presiding Commissioner Tim Schulte of Hermann is being challenged by Mark Mundwiller of Owensville for the Republican Party nomination. Each of the other seven offices — including the four offices with no incumbent seeking re-election — has only one candidate.

All the filings for the countywide offices took place in the first two days of the filing period, Feb. 24 and 25. It was thought by courthouse observers that additional filings would take place as the March 31 deadline drew closer — especially for the four open offices that don’t feature a well-known incumbent seeking another four-year term. Instead, three of those four incumbents’ deputies will be moving into the officeholders’ positions after the November General Elections — barring a successful write-in campaign, which is highly unlikely.

No Democrat filed for any of the county government offices.

There are seven offices that essentially will be filled in the August balloting. Those include Associate Circuit Court with Judge Ada Brehe-Krueger seeking another term. The Circuit Clerk’s Office with incumbent Jennifer Schneider unchallenged. Although elected countywide, both of these officeholders are employees of the state court system while their staffers are county government employees.

Mary E. Weston is without opposition in her bid for another term in the Prosecuting Attorney’s Office.

In the open offices, Deputy County Collector Glenda Shockley is he only candidate for the County Collector’s Office. Deputy Clerk Danielle Norsic is unchallenged in her effort to succeed retiring longtime County Clerk Lesa Lietzow. Deputy Recorder of Deeds Jennifer Diebal is the only candidate for the newly created office of Recorder of Deeds.

And, newcomer Natasha Hesemann is the lone candidate to succeed retiring County Treasurer Mike Feagan, who is finishing up his third term in office.

Depending on the outcome of Tuesday’s vote in the General Municipal Elections, which included several tax and bond issue measures, and late-minute legislative action by the Missouri General Assembly, the August ballot could become crowded with statewide issues, also.
