HERMANN – After faltering last month, Gasconade County’s primary sales taxes posted a healthy rebound this month, as reflected in the report from County Treasurer Mike Feagan to the county Commission at last Thursday’s session.
The General Fund Sales Tax, which provides the bulk of the locally generated money supporting county government operations, generated $103,409 for the May reimbursement from the Missouri Department of Revenue. That compares with the $95,270 contained in the April reimbursement. This month’s check was the third of the first five reimbursements to top the $100,000 mark. This month’s payment compares with the May 2025 reimbursement of $97,181.
For the first five months, the General Fund Sales Tax has produced $522,852, which is $16,066 more than the amount generated during the same time last year.
The county’s Use Tax — the sales tax applied to purchases made from out-of-state vendors, primarily online purchases — continues to provide a substantial amount of revenue. The May Use Tax reimbursement was for $54,674, about $3,000 more than was received in April and $19,000 more than was generated in May of last year.
Thus far this year, the Use Tax has generated $281,558, which is a whopping $37,928 more than the amount received during the first five months of 2025. The performance of the Use Tax reflects the continued popularity of online shopping by county residents long after the coronavirus pandemic was declared to be over.
The Law Enforcement Sales Tax (LEST), which benefits both the Gasconade County Sheriff’s Department and five municipal police departments, in May produced $71,694 for the county and $23,898 for the five cities.
Through May, the LEST has generated $358,173 for the county sheriff’s agency and $119,391 for the police agencies of Owensville, Hermann, Bland, Rosebud and Gasconade. This month’s county LEST reimbursement compares with $66,482 received in May of 2025.
For the year, the tax has produced a total of $477,564. Last year, the tax generated a total of $1,145,786. Of that, the county received 75 percent and the cities received 25 percent. The cities’ May and year-to-date amounts break down accordingly: Owensville – $10,993, $54,919; Hermann – $8,603, $42.980; Bland – $1,911, $9,551; Rosebud – $1,672, $8,357; Gasconade – $716, $3,581.
