Concluding a stretch of four road games to open the season, Cullen VanLeer’s Owensville Dutchmen welcomed Salem’s Tigers Friday night in their home opener.

Seeing a split of the freshman and junior varsity games, the varsity contest between the host Dutchmen and visiting Tigers would decide who won the tripleheader.

Nursing a 3-point halftime lead by a score of 26-23, Owensville was able to pull away in the second half going on to post a 47-35 victory.

Brendan Decker showed the way for the Dutchmen with a double double of 15 points and 12 rebounds.

Will Lauth also reached double digits scoring eight of his 11 points in the first half.

Landon Valley and Bryce Payne both added seven points for the victorious Dutchmen with Payne also pulling down 12 rebounds.

Charlie Whelan added five points while Austin Lowder rounded out the Dutchmen scoring with two points against Salem.

Scott Lewis’ JV Dutchmen survived a furious second-half rally by Salem holding on for a 46-44 victory.

Layne Evans led Owensville with 14 points scoring 12 of them in the first half.

Blake Elliott scored all eight of his points in the second half to go along with seven points from Charles Hazelwood.

Ethan Ditto and Austin Luecke each added four points for OHS.

Tanner Meyer, Connor Fisher, Noah Caldwell and Eli Graham all scored two points against Salem.

Leading 17-16 at halftime, John VanLeer’s Dutchmen freshman looked to open their season with a victory Friday night.

Unable to overcome a six-point third quarter, OHS fell 42-38 to Salem in the freshman game.

Owensville was led by Brandon Graham with 12 points.

Looking to put the Borgia Turkey Tournament behind them, Cullen VanLeer’s varsity Dutchmen looked to score a win against a district opponent last Tuesday on the road in a Highway 19 showdown against Cuba’s Wildcats.

Ending regulation tied at 54-54, Owensville outscored the Wildcats 11-2 in the extra session to post a 65-56 victory.

Payne led four Dutchmen in double figures with 12 points and nearly had a double double pulling down nine rebounds.

Whelan added 11 points to go along with 10 markers apiece from Decker and Valley.

Pulling down a team-high 10 rebounds, Valley completed a double double against the Wildcats.

In their 56-30 victory over Cuba, Owensville’s JV Dutchmen were led by Meyer with a game-high 18 points.
