Leave Columbia’s Battle High School with a plaque.

That was the goal for a quintet of Owensville JV Dutchgirl wrestlers last Thursday during the Wonder Woman JV Wrestling Tournament at Battle High School in Columbia.

For three of Zach Bollmann’s orange and black wrestlers, that goal was reached.

At 135 pounds, Kylie Bates won three of her four matches to claim third-place hardware from Spartan country.

Bates pinned North Point’s Lillian Brown in :32 setting up a quarterfinal showdown with Hickman’s Maddy Blankenship.

Pinning the Kewpie grappler in :57, Bates advanced to the championship semifinals against Odessa’s Ava Sanders.

Losing by fall in 1:10 to her Bulldog opponent, Bates was sent to the third-place match and a bout against Fox’s Maleighia Stranger.

Sanders went on to place second in the tournament.

Similar to her first two matches, Bates pinned Stranger in :48 to secure the third-place plaque at 135 pounds.

Merrick Blankenship also won three of her four matches at 140 pounds in Columbia to claim a third-place plaque.

Drawing a first-round bye, Blankenship advanced to the quarterfinals against Liberty’s (Wentzville) Truth Samuels.

Scoring a win by fall in :43, Blankenship advanced to the semifinals against St. Charles’ Morgan Simon.

Pinned midway through the second period in 3:05, Blankenship was sent to the third-place match against Hazelwood East’s Dariya Lindsey.

Simon went on the place second in the tournament at 140 pounds.

Securing the win by medical forfeit, Blankenship joined Bates as a third-place finisher in Columbia for Bollmann’s Dutchgirls.

Freshman Rylee Dare rounded out the Dutchgirl trio of placers by also taking third place at 155 pounds.

Opening her tournament against McCluer’s Korri Holman, Dare pinned her in :39 to advance to a quarterfinal bout with Francis Howell’s Addison Marshall.

Pinning the Viking grappler in 3:47, Dare earned a spot in the semifinals opposite Marshall’s Ayla Castaneda.

Losing by fall in 4:56 to her Owl opponent, Dare was sent to the third-place match against Jefferson City’s Ava Purvis.

Castaneda went on to win the tournament at 155 pounds.

Pinned in 3:22, Dare settled for fourth-place hardware.

Makenzi Carpenter competed for the Dutchgirls at 120 pounds.

Losing her first-round match to Oak Grove’s Brinlee Tripp in 3:19, Carpenter saw the Lady Panther grappler go on to place fourth in the tournament.

At 170 pounds, Dutchgirl wrestler Lexis Manning lost by fall in the first round to Mexico’s Abilgail Seibert in 3:07 before the Lady Bulldog grappler went to place second in the tournament.
