OWENSVILLE —Owensville City Engineer Caleb Homan presented two items to the Owensville Board of Aldermen Monday: a request to conditionally award a contract in the amount of $831,585.83 for the 2024 Owensville Wastewater Collection System Rehabilitation Project and an update to the First Street Lighting Project.

Regarding the wastewater system collection rehabilitation, a total of six bids were received from the 12 firms which picked up bid packets. Each was asked to submit price quotes for the base bid and two alternatives for project areas deemed the most urgent to be fixed.

The city recommended conditionally awarding the project to Donald Maggi Construction of Rolla in the amount of $831,585.83 with the final award of alternates one and two as contingent on funding availability in the upcoming fiscal year. The approved base bid was $557,799.10 with alternate one in the amount of $236,326.53 and alternate two as $37,460.20.

Base bids along with alternates one and two were received from the following companies, respectively: Bennett, Inc., $957,860, $415,920, $58,200; BuildTec Construction, LLC, $751,487, $309,690, $39,602; Kelpe Construction, Inc., $544,712, $318,536, $30,439; KJ Unnerstall Construction, $663,942, $260,252, $38,620; and Kuesel Excavating Co., $767,459, $395,503, $42,534. Bids were not received from BLD Services, LLC., CMEC, Inc., Gersheson Construction Co., Inc., Gruenloh Construction, Inc., PJ Myers Hauling & Excavating, LLC and TB Dozing & Excavating, LLC.

The motion to award the contract to Donald Maggi Construction was made by Ward 2 Alderman Denise Bohl, seconded by Ward 1 Alderman Dan Breeden and passed with all aldermen present in favor. Ward 2 Alderman Matthew Kramme was absent.

Homan also provided an update to the First Street Lighting Project, advising the board that bids will be accepted in January. This project is funded at $500,000 through the Department of Natural Resource’s Division of Energy under the Energy Efficiency and Conservation Block Grant.

The goal is to provide updated, decorative lighting on First Street from Highway 28 to McFadden Avenue along with trenching under the pavement and running new electricity to replace the current infrastructure which has broken, damaged lines up to 100 years old in some places.
