Owensville Parks and Recreation Department (OPRD) Director Angela Lairmore reports a very successful year so far with increased revenue and high turnouts for several offerings.
Approaching the Board of Aldermen at their July 20 meeting, Lairmore’s first update was that a total of 10,000 visitors have attended Winter Water Park since May 23 — an average of 172 per day.
She reported 174 guests were in attendance July 16 when Santa came to the pool for Christmas in July.
Over 150 attended the Sparklight Series showing of Frozen for Christmas in July that was postponed due to weather. Lairmore noted that the evening was “magical.”
The next movie will be held Friday, Aug. 21, at Buschmann Park, showing Ratatouille at 7:45pm with a little something special for the adults before the show — wine tastings offered by Wenwood Bay Winery & Restaurant and White Mule Winery.
A group from Pacific enjoyed swimming at Winter Water Park so much last year that they loaded their buses up once again and completed two of three planned trips to Owensville’s pool during this season.
Lairmore said 177 guests from Pacific came Wednesday, 144 on Friday and they expect around 200 on the upcoming Wednesday.
The July 10 Let Freedom Swing Golf Scramble brought in $3,578.29 in revenue. This year, there were 46 sponsors and 17 teams.
She also reported that OPRD received the new Gator June 5 and that the city was given an additional promotion by the seller which brought the total costs under the $15,000 budgeted, along with the savings from revenue brought in by the surplus sale.
A golf cart, numbered “14,” is another addition to the park. Lairmore shared that it is the 13th golf cart in the fleet but due to superstitions, the number 13 was skipped.
She said she knew she was superstitious but seemed surprised when others asked if she would skip the number and agreed to.
Memberships all around have exceeded budget expectations, generating additional unplanned revenue for OPRD.
Lairmore shares that her staff has been great this year.
City Administrator Randy Blaske commented that OPRD is “winning everywhere.”
