Kalyn Kemp’s Owensville Dutchgirl soccer team enter their Highway 28 showdown with Belle’s Lady Tigers on a three-game losing streak with losses to Pacific, St. Clair and Union.
Last Tuesday night on the road, OHS snapped their three-game losing streak and also scored their first goal in the same timespan following an 8-0 mercy rule victory over Belle.
Landry Watson led the Dutchgirl attack with six goals in addition to a goal each from Kylie Kitchen and Luci Angell.
Paige Loyd earned her second shutout of the season in goal for the Dutchgirls.
Two nights later, Owensville hit the road further west on Highway 28 to take on Dixon’s Lady Bulldogs.
Playing to a scoreless first half, Owensville broke the tie 10 minutes into the second half before going on to a 5-0 shutout of Dixon.
Adding to her six goals against Belle, Watson scored four more at Dixon giving her 13 for the season.
Kitchen also added a goal and an assist for Owensville.
Starting today (Wednesday) weather permitting, Dutchgirl soccer will return to Dixon to compete in the annual Dixon Girls Soccer Tournament.
Competing alongside the host Lady Bulldogs and Dutchgirls will be Crocker’s Lady Lions, Laquey’s Lady Hornets and Belle’s Lady Tigers.
Playing a four-game round robin tournament, Owensville will begin their portion today (Wednesday) at 3 p.m., in Dixon against Laquey followed by Crocker against Dixon at 5 p.m..
Tomorrow (Thursday), the Dutchgirls will face Dixon also at 3 p.m., followed by Crocker and Belle at 5 p.m.
Friday games will see Dixon face Belle at 3 p.m., followed by Crocker and Laquey at 5 p.m.
Capping the tournament on Saturday will be four games beginning at 10 a.m., with Laquey facing Belle followed by a high noon match up featuring Owensville and Crocker.
At 2 p.m., Dixon will face Laquey followed by the final game of the tournament at 4 p.m., pitting the Dutchgirls against Belle.
A point system will determine the winner of the tournament.
Three points will be awarded for a win while both teams will earn one point if the match ends in a tie.
An additional point will also be given to the winning team in the event of a shutout.
Following the Dixon Tournament, Kemp’s Dutchgirl soccer team will host Wright City on Monday, April 12 at 4:30 p.m., at Dutchmen Field followed by another home match on Tuesday, April 13 against Sullivan at 5 p.m.
